SPANISH ALMONDS

The Philosopher’s Stoneground uses dry-farmed Spanish almonds for all of our sprouted almond butters. This means that the trees rely on rainfall and have no added irrigation. This allows us to use truly raw, unpasteurized almonds, as well as support water-sustainable, ecologically-appropriate, and traditional agriculture.

We are the first water conscious almond butter company and intend to continue pioneering this path so that you don’t need to feel guilty in your choice to eat almonds.

CACAO

We pay an additional regenerative premium on our cacao beyond Organic and Fair Trade premiums, which incentivizes our farmers to earn more money by building soil, increasing habitat, and enhancing biodiversity. We intend to pioneer a regenerative premium for each ingredient we use to help raise the bar on agricultural practices by rewarding farmers economically for farming ecologically.

Tim Richards
Founder, Chief Philosopher & Nut Alchemist

In 2012, while studying to be a holistic health coach, I made my first batch of sprouted almond butter after learning that sprouting makes food sweeter, more digestible, and more nutritious. It was by far the most delicious almond butter I’d ever tasted! I shared some with my housemates, who told me: “dude, this is the best almond butter ever! You need to make this a business.”

I founded The Philosopher's Stoneground on Earth Day 2013 for two reasons:

  1. To teach people about the delicious importance of sprouted food, and
  2. To create an economic engine for regenerative farming, which promotes the health of all Life, not just financial profit.

What started as a small operation in my home kitchen in Davis, California, organically grew first to the back of a local restaurant, then to a commercial kitchen in Berkeley, and finally into our own dedicated facility in Santa Cruz.

I intend for our business to establish more regenerative orchards and spread this model of agriculture. According to Project Drawdown, 8 of the top 20 solutions to climate change relate to regenerative agriculture. Thanks to your conscious buying, together we can invest in raising the bar on how business operates and promote a healthy and vibrant planet for all species!
